Viettel rescues 100GB of international Internet connection capacity for VNPT

Accordingly, if after applying technical measures, there is still a problem, businesses that still have capacity will share international connections for businesses that lack in order to ensure service quality.

Information to the press on the afternoon of February 10, Mr. Nguyen Hong Thang, Director of the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Information and Communications said that with 4 undersea cable lines continuously having problems causing a partial or complete loss of capacity on the Internet. online, businesses are affected. However, the user experience of the service is different, depending on the need for international connectivity. And the level of influence of the carriers also varies, depending on the characteristics of their customer base.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Thang, when many undersea cable routes have problems, the Ministry of Information and Communications has established a Steering Committee to overcome the problem and develop a national plan on undersea optical cables. In particular, the Ministry has asked the network operators to rescue each other, businesses with good bandwidth to support businesses that are lacking bandwidth, have not yet negotiated to open up more connection capacity via land cable.

“This is also the first time that the Ministry of Information and Communications has drastically directed businesses to open rescue and support each other over land bandwidth, putting the interests of Vietnamese Internet users in general first. Under normal circumstances, competition drives development. However, when it is difficult, businesses need to put aside the business problem, put the competition aside and put the interests of Vietnamese Internet users first.”Mr. Nguyen Hong Thang said.

Specifically, Viettel has supported VNPT to expand by 100Gbps while VNPT has not finished negotiating to open more land cable capacity. As planned, at the beginning of next week, VNPT will expand the international connection capacity, after completing procedures with international partners.

A representative of the Department of Telecommunication added that, although the cost to add connection capacity via land cable is very high, in the past time, businesses have made great efforts to expand more bandwidth. Up to now, the total connection capacity has been opened by network operators up to nearly 3Tbps. In the next 1-2 weeks, businesses will continue to open more connection capacity via land cable.

With the drastic implementation of technical solutions, increasing the capacity of land cable lines and the spirit of sharing, telecommunications businesses commit to starting tonight, February 10, connecting to the Internet from Vietnam. International travel is no longer congested.

“The Ministry of Information and Communications hopes that businesses will form a culture of sharing and helping each other in difficult times, with the common view to put the competition aside, towards the highest goal of ensuring benefits for Vietnamese Internet users”the representative of the Department of Telecommunications once again emphasized.

During the year 2022 and the first month of 2023, 4 undersea cable routes AAG, AAE-1, APG and IA (also known as Inter-Asia cable) have respectively encountered problems, causing partial or complete loss of capacity on routes, affecting the quality of international Internet services.

Up to now, 3 routes AAG, APG and IA have scheduled to fix the problem. Specifically, the problem on the S6 branch of the APG route will be fixed in the period from March 23, 2023 to March 27, 2023; and the error on the S9 branch connecting to Singapore and Japan will be fixed in April 2023. The incident on the IA route to Singapore is expected to be fixed between April 5 and April 13, 2023. Problems on the AAG route will be fixed between February 26, 2023 and April 15, 2023.
