UN calls for ceasefire in Syria for earthquake relief

On Twitter, the UN human rights office said: “UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk calls for an immediate ceasefire in Syria, while fully respecting human rights and humanitarian law obligations to support all the people”.

Earlier on the same day, the second UN humanitarian aid convoy, consisting of 14 trucks carrying electric heaters, tents, blankets and other items, arrived in northwestern Syria, through the Bab al- border crossing. Hawa borders Turkey. This quantity is enough to supply about 1,100 households.

Meanwhile, the World Food Program (WFP) has called for the opening of more aid points at the Syria-Turkey border crossings amid the depletion of food aid in northwestern Syria, where 90 % of population dependent on humanitarian assistance.

According to official statistics, as of 20:00 on February 10 (Vietnam time), a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred on February 6, killing about 22,000 people in Turkey and Syria. of which about 3,300 are in Syria.
