Speaking out the ‘disgusting truth’, the Twitter engineer was fired by Elon Musk

According to news site Platformer, Musk met with a number of Twitter engineers earlier this week to discuss how to count views on Twitter, which has been on a downward trend in recent months. Previously, the billionaire had asked employees to find out if his reach on the platform was restricted because of a problem in the Twitter algorithm.

“Ridiculous”, Musk told his subordinates. “I have more than 100 million followers and only get tens of thousands of impressions” (impression is the impression of a tweet on a user’s timeline – PV).

Employees showed Musk internal data and a Google Trends graph, indicating that public interest in the billionaire was dwindling. Google Trends data shows that his popularity peaked (100 points) in April – around the time he proposed to acquire Twitter – and has since steadily declined to 9 points.

When one of the engineers said Musk’s popularity scale might drop due to a lack of public interest after the Twitter takeover, Musk fired the person, according to Platformer. In addition, he asked some employees to monitor how often his tweets were recommended on the platform as he did not believe there were no internal problems.

Musk and a Twitter spokesperson did not respond to Business Insider’s request for comment on the news.

On April 8, “Blue Bird” experienced a service interruption that prevented users from tweeting or directly messaging each other after the company tried to launch some new features. According to Insider, Twitter may be in trouble in the near future because it has fired thousands of employees.

This is not the first time Musk has laid off staff so suddenly. Just weeks after becoming the boss of Twitter, he fired three employees for criticizing him on social networks.
