According to information from the Hospital Vietnam – Sweden Uong Bi, the patient is Mr. D.HC (62 years old, residing in Thuy Nguyen – Hai Phong) came to the clinic on February 1 due to a sore throat, difficulty swallowing. Because he thought he had a sore throat, Mr. C. bought himself medicine to treat it, but it didn’t help.
Through examination, the doctor assigned the patient to endoscopy esophagogastroduodenal. During the endoscopy, the doctor discovered that the patient had a large tumor, covering most of the esophageal circumference, many necrotic tissues that bleed easily, with food residue above the tumor. Anatomy results showed that the patient had non-keratinizing, invasive squamous cell carcinoma.
According to Dr. Pham Thi Thanh Huong, Department of Gastroenterology, esophageal cancer is not a rare disease, the rate is 3-4 times higher in men than in women.
“The disease in the early stages may not cause abnormal symptoms and is only discovered by chance through endoscopy. However, the late stage can cause manifestations such as choking, swallowing difficulties, vomiting blood, increased secretions. saliva, weight loss, neck lymphadenopathy …”, the expert explained.
In this case, patient C. had symptoms that were easily confused with pharyngitis due to the esophageal tumor in the upper third, which easily caused stagnation of food and saliva.
Through this, doctors advise people to regularly visit the doctor health at least every 6 months. People also need to avoid waiting until they have symptoms to see a doctor. When there are abnormal symptoms, we need to check our health immediately to avoid late complications of the disease.
