Inspiration for digital transformation

The slogan “Make in Vietnam” was introduced in 2019 with the goal of encouraging the Vietnamese business community, including digital technology enterprises to confidently reach out to the big sea; inspire faster digital transformation and enhance Vietnam’s value in the global value chain. Over the past 4 years, the digital technology industry continues to be a bright spot of Vietnam’s economy, with an estimated revenue of $148 billion and the total number of digital technology enterprises over 70,000.

Great responsibility and mission

The process of digital transformation is taking place like a storm in Vietnam, in all areas: digital government, digital economy and digital society. In that hustle and bustle, ICT (information and communication technology) businesses are placed at the center, tasked with the mission of bringing Vietnam to a breakthrough with the digital economy playing a leading role, striving to put Vietnam in the group of developed countries (before 2045), Top 20 world economies (before 2039).

Right from 2019, the National Forum for Development of Vietnam Technology Enterprises was held for the first time, clearly defining the theme: “Aspirations, vision and development orientation for a powerful Vietnam”. At that time, the Government and the Ministry of Information and Communications clearly determined that ICT enterprises must play a role in promoting the information technology industry (now digital technology) to become a spearhead economic sector. The action program and action slogan “Make in Vietnam” were also born, in which the digital technology industry was determined to become the mainstay of the economy. The Ministry of Information and Communications also stepped up to “take the lead”, receiving the mission to lead the national digital transformation.

After 4 years of implementation, not following the cliché slogans, “Make in Vietnam” has been clearly defined by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the conceptual content for digital technology products to aim for is: “Research Research in Vietnam, Create in Vietnam, Made in Vietnam”. From that awareness, digital businesses are supported by the Government and ministries, especially the Ministry of Information and Communications (from policy to communication, from tax incentives to training support). human resources, from development orientation to mission delivery…). Make in Vietnam has inspired endless digital transformation – an irreversible process in our country.

Great responsibility, heavy duty. As Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized at the National Forum on Developing Vietnam Technology Enterprises in 2020: Without “Make in Vietnam”, Vietnam cannot become a developed country. Without “Make in Vietnam”, Vietnam cannot be prosperous. Therefore, “Make in Vietnam” did not stop at the slogan, but represented by the number of digital businesses and Make in Vietnam digital products/apps one after another.

“Make in Vietnam” creates infinite energy

Looking back 4 years since “Make in Vietnam” was born, the number of Vietnamese digital enterprises has increased in both quantity and quality; revenue from the ICT industry contributes more and more to the budget; “Make in Vietnam” products are increasingly gaining a foothold in the country, reaching out strongly to the world.

Specifically, in 2019, the total revenue of the ICT industry reached 112,350 billion USD, the total payment to the state budget was 54 trillion VND, an increase of 2,000 billion VND compared to 2018. In 2019, technology industry revenue The number has reached more than 124 billion USD, with more than 60,000 digital businesses. Entering 2021, the total industry revenue reached more than 136 billion USD, an increase of more than 11.4 billion USD compared to 2020, despite other economic sectors facing difficulties due to Covid-19. Particularly in 2022, the revenue of the entire ICT industry is estimated to reach 148 billion USD, an increase of over 10% compared to 2021. The number of digital technology enterprises as of December 2022 is over 70,000.

Emphasizing the role of the mission “Make in Vietnam” in the past 4 years, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung assessed: Since its launch with about 45,000 initial ICT businesses, up to now, the number The business is already over 70,000. In particular, in 2020, after just one year of launching the movement, more than 13,000 new digital businesses were born. It is the “Make in Vietnam” movement that has created limitless energy for the business community, inspiring the whole society.

With the development speed of the ICT industry in general and digital technology enterprises in particular, the goal of developing 100,000 digital technology enterprises in Vietnam is according to Resolution No. 52/2019 of the Politburo and Directive 01/2020 of the Prime Minister. Prime Minister is gradually becoming a reality. “The managers did not fully appreciate the strength of the Vietnamese people, especially when the right flag was raised. The target of 100,000 digital technology enterprises by 2030 is completely achievable before 2025,” said Minister Nguyen Manh Hung confidently.

For a mighty Vietnam

In fact, the “Make in” movement has been successfully deployed by many countries ahead of Vietnam, including two Asian superpowers, China and India.

In 2014, the Prime Minister of India initiated the “Make in India” policy with the hope of turning India into the world’s second factory after China. Immediately, the “Make in India” program attracted a large amount of FDI, including investors from Chinese rivals (in 2015, Chinese investors invested in India). The degree increased six times compared to 2014, with the amount of 870 million USD). India’s goal is to create 90 million jobs (2014-2025), making it a digital nation with a highly developed ICT industry.

Before that, since the 1980s, China has undergone drastic reforms and quickly rose to become the world’s factory in many fields. Particularly in the field of digital technology, since the 1990s, the country has focused strongly on three areas: digital technology industry, aerospace and defense industry. Although the content is still domestic production, China does not use the concept of “Make in” but chooses the concept of “Made in”. Even since 2013, the goods exported from this country have used two parallel brands for each market: Made in China and Made in PRC (People’s Republic of China).

For Vietnam, the concept of “Make in Vietnam” was first introduced at the first National Forum on Developing Digital Technology Enterprises in Vietnam in 2019 with the motto: “Research in Vietnam, create innovation. in Vietnam, made in Vietnam”. The Make in Vietnam statement, issued by then Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, became an inspiration for Vietnamese digital businesses. Then, over the past four years, this concept has become the national slogan, the development orientation for the country’s digital technology business community.

Make in Vietnam has become an important driving force for Vietnam’s economy to develop rapidly and sustainably, and as an inspiration for the goal of making Vietnam a developed, powerful and prosperous country. And in the process of national digital transformation, besides bringing the activities of people and businesses to the digital environment, promoting the digital government, digital economy and digital society, the mission is to become a pillar shouldering the burden. The economy is being assigned directly to the Vietnamese digital business community by the Government, the Ministry of Information and Communications.
