In the first month of the year, the consumption of the Vietnamese automobile market decreased by more than 50%.
Information from the Association of Automobile Manufacturers in Vietnam (VAMA) released on February 10 said that in January 2023, the whole market had 17,314 vehicles of all types sold, down 51% compared to December 2022 and down 44% compared to the same period last year.
Of the total number of cars sold on the market, there were 14,036 passenger cars, down 49%; commercial vehicles reached 3,174 vehicles, down 59%; specialized vehicles reached 286 vehicles, down 62% compared to the previous month.

In terms of vehicle origin, while the consumption of imported CBU cars was 9,228 units, down 48%, domestically assembled cars only reached 8,086 units, down 54% compared to December 2022.
Total sales of the whole market by the end of January 2023 decreased by 44% compared to 2022. Tourist cars decreased by 44%; commercial vehicles down 39% and special purpose vehicles down 64% compared to 2022
By the end of January 2023, sales of locally assembled cars decreased by 56% while imported cars decreased by 25% compared to the same period last year.
