Donald Trump was able to use Facebook again

Donald Trump’s Facebook account has been restored.

Confirmed to CNBC, Meta said Mr. Trump can access Facebook and Instagram from 9/2. The account of the former US President was suspended after the Capital Hill riots on January 6, 2021. Not only Meta, Twitter and YouTube have also made the unprecedented decision to ban a sitting President from their platforms due to the risk of inciting violence. However, the level of ban at each company is different.

November 2022, Twitter under the boss Elon Musk restored Mr. Trump’s account. However, since then, he has not posted anything on this platform. At a conference late last year, he said he “didn’t see a reason” to return to Twitter. Before the ban, Trump’s Twitter account had more than 88 million followers.

Recently, he often conveyed his message through Truth Social, the social network of Trump Media & Technology company. He commented that the interaction on Truth Social is better than Twitter.

Last month, Meta announced plans to reopen Mr. Trump’s account after determining the risks had been significantly reduced. Meta’s decision is based on a review of last year’s midterm elections in the US and an expert assessment of the security environment. Global Affairs President Nick Clegg said the punishment would be increased if Mr. Trump or any other famous figure repeats the offence. If the offense is repeated, Meta will remove the offending posts and Mr. Trump can be suspended from 1 month to 2 years depending on the severity.

Representatives for the Trump campaign did not respond to CNBC’s request for comment.
