The People’s Committee of Kon Tum City (Kon Tum) organized the tournament canoe racing The city’s tradition is to expand in 2023. This is one of the activities in the series of events towards the 110th anniversary of the establishment of the province. Kon Tum.

Canoeing race on the backflowing river of Dak Bla

This year’s tournament has 11 racing teams with 60 athletes from 9 communes and wards of Kon Tum city, H.Sa Teacher and H.Ia H’Drai.

According to the format of the tournament, the teams competed in 2 distances, 200m and 1,500m.

A large number of people came to cheer for the racing teams

Each racing team will consist of 2 athletes working together to row on a canoe. The racing boat is created from a solid wooden body. The dugout boat has no mandatory size but depends on the block of wood, the owner’s wishes.

However, boats are usually 5-9 m long, 0.4-0.8 m wide, 0.2-0.4 m wide, 0.2-0.3 m high, 0.8-1 oars m. There are very few dugout canoes preserved.

The tournament is held on Dak Bla Riverpassage from bridge Dak Bla to the area of ​​​​Kon Tum Prison (Kon Tum City). This is an opportunity for athletes to meet, exchange, preserve and develop national sports, creating an exciting competitive atmosphere at the beginning of the new year.

Exciting and dramatic competition between racing teams

After exciting and dramatic competitions, the Kroong commune team (Kon Tum city) won the first prize in the distance of 200m; Sa Binh commune team (H.Sa Thay) won the first prize in the distance of 1,500m; Sa Binh commune team won the team with the most racing boats and Kroong commune team won the first prize of the whole group.

Dak Bla River 139 km long, starting at the foot of Ngoc Men mountain (H.Kon Plong, Kon Tum) and ending when joining the Se San stream in Gia Lai province. If most of the rivers in Vietnam flow to the east and then into the sea, the Dak Bla River (Kon Tum) flows back to the west. Because of that, the locals often call Dak Bla the backflowing river.
