By installing giant wind turbines offshore in just 30 hours, China shocked the world with its unique construction strategy
The Tech Times reports that Chinese wind power company Goldwind has successfully built a 14.3 megawatt (MW) offshore wind turbine. Moreover, the company installed this turbine within 30 hours. This is a testament to China’s strong technical development and installation capacity.
It is known that the installation of wind turbines took place quickly thanks to the tactical advances of the Goldwind company. They have shortened the time involved in carrying out critical steps such as disassembling tools, designing modules, especially pre-assembled rotors – reducing turbine lift times by up to 26 hours and increasing overall efficiency by 40%, according to an Electrek report.
China and its record-breaking achievements
According to the Tech Times, the giant 14.3 MW wind turbine is located in the Zhangpu Liuao offshore wind farm (phase 2) in China’s Fujian province.
It is known, China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) is responsible for the development of the project. In June 2023, CTG also announced that the wind turbine installation ship (WTIV) Bach Hac Than had installed the field’s first 13 MW turbine. They also confirmed that a 16 MW offshore wind turbine was installed at the same location. Based on the latest information, this turbine has been operating at maximum capacity for 24 hours continuously and achieved a record daily electricity output of 384,100 kWh.
Phase 2 of the Zhangpu Liuao wind power project is located off the coast of the Liu’ao peninsula, Fujian. The 400 MW capacity farm is estimated to generate 1.6 kW of electricity per year, which saves 500,000 tonnes of conventional coal and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 1.36 million tonnes per year. This strongly supports China’s clean energy goals.
