This is a big event that shows Vietnam continues to be a prestigious and reliable country in the assessment of the international community. This is also an important event, a new step in the efforts to implement the foreign policy of the 13th Party Congress and Directive 25 of the Secretariat on promoting and elevating multilateral external relations to 2030.

In an interview with the press right after the announcement of the results, the head of the Vietnamese delegation, Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Hieu affirmed that this result not only shows the recognition of the international community for the achievement of ensuring human rights. the people of Vietnam but also the result of close guidance Star and direct participation of senior leaders, efforts of the whole political system, including the role of media agencies, the press in protecting and promoting human rights. This is also a proof that Vietnam’s position and prestige in the international arena is constantly being strengthened and improved.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the UN, emphasized the importance of the UN Human Rights Council and the high level of competition among the candidate countries, especially in the Asia-Thailand group. Binh Duong.

With the international community, over the years, we have participated in many UN peacekeeping activities; participating in international humanitarian actions such as assisting in the search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, participating in the rehabilitation and technology transfer in agriculture in many African countries, participating in many international activities against natural disasters, epidemics, and climate change at the regional level, etc.

Not only in political activities, the world has many ways to recognize Vietnam as a country with a culture with its own identity. Last month, September 2022, a Vietnamese word was added to the American Merriam-Webster dictionary. It’s the word “bread”. For those who do not know, the Merriam-Webster dictionary is a famous American dictionary first published by Noah Webster (1758–1843) in 1828. This is an important basis for the formation of English – American. Over time, Webster has become a popular brand of various dictionaries.

The new entry “banh mi” into the Merriam-Webster dictionary is defined as: “a spicy cake in Vietnamese cuisine; a divided loaf of bread often filled with meat (pork or chicken).” and pickles (such as carrots, radishes), garnished with cilantro and cucumber”.

This is not the first time the Vietnamese word “banh mi” has been included in the international dictionary. It has been included in the Oxford dictionary since 2011 as a proper noun, described as a snack, inside with one or more types of meat, pate and vegetables such as carrots, cucumbers, coriander … and with spices such as chili, pepper.

In fact, there are many Vietnamese words that, from being transliterated on par with the native language, have gradually gained their own place as a noun that is written and pronounced according to Vietnamese. For example, the entries: “Pho”, “ao dai”, “fish sauce”… There is no better approach to Vietnamese culture than to start with the language.

In the event that Vietnam was elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the second time, according to UN WebTV, Vietnam received 145 votes out of 189 votes, accounting for nearly 80%, in the highest group. The figures say a lot and in themselves show seriousness, fairness, and recognition of reality.

Many years ago, when referring to Vietnam, many foreigners only knew about the victory in the two wars against the French and American colonialists, and there was no other information. Today, in the context of a flat world, in many ways, Vietnam has emerged independently, as a stream with its own identity in the global cultural flow.
